The Unburnt
Bio
I have been working in the field of motion design and visual effects since the early 2000s. I have numerous film credits, including Tron Legacy, Twilight: Breaking Dawn, and Battleship. As a commercial director, I directed projects for Nike, Apple, and Honda. My art takes my years of technical knowledge and places them into a context outside of the commercial world.
About the Work
I create complex and intricate animated loops, using a variety of digital techniques. Often, the animations use custom code or high-end procedural simulation software. The ideas behind my pieces usually start from the concept of motion, and then gradually the other components come together to complete them.
About This Piece
I was very excited to be a part of the CryptoCubes project. I chose a Cube that I felt had a good compositional element to it - I wanted to create something cinematic, and the aspect ratio of the Cube supported this vision. My thought behind my piece was to present the Cubes as something that could last withstand the destructive forces of time. I chose to represent this with fire, which elegantly traces along the intersections of the Cubes. If you look closely, you can see geometric patterns inscribed onto the Cube faces, presenting them as perhaps something from a prehistoric time.
Future
Web3 has been an interesting and exciting journey. It brought attention to a large part of the digital arts community that had largely been ignored outside of our enclaves. I was incredibly happy and fortunate to find a small amount of success in those early days. About the future, who knows…?
