The Cube Complex by Jonathan Wolfe
The Cube Complex
Bio
My name is Jonathan Wolfe, I’m a Canadian artist working within multiple different mediums, with a focus on painting. My work is inspired by everyday scenes that I come in contact with in my day to day life. I’m inspired by objects and places that are common and looked over and finding a way to highlight them to the viewer.
About the Work
I would say I’m primarily a painter, but I don’t limit myself to medium. For my physical works I use matte acrylic paint, and for my digital work I always use my drawings/paintings as a starting point. I really appreciate the physical side of art, so having an aspect of that in my digital work, whether it be a scanned drawing I sketch over on procreate, or an animation that was made using hand painted frames, my work is always rooted in a layer of physical art.
About This Piece
When I was making this work I was living in a small town in the middle of rural Saskatchewan, long story, but me and my partner were staying there for the summer. I had a tiny studio and limited resources, so the original painting of this was pretty tiny, I believe it was on a 6”x8” board. I would say I painted about 80% of it with acrylic, then scanned it and did the rest digitally on procreate.
Future
I think the future of NFTs and web3 is a bright one, more people are coming around to the possibilities and freedoms it can supply to artists. It’s becoming easier for more people to join the space and see what it can offer them.
