About the Work
Gisel has exhibited internationally and also the meta-verse. As a supporter of decentralized initiatives and protecting artists rights, Gisel supports new paths towards financial autonomy for creatives.
Since her first mint to blockchain in 2019, she explores the technical aspects of various chains, analyzing and participating in multiple creative tech initiatives and artist-based collectives.
Gisel has navigated in between the lines of the analog and digital realms throughout her life. Having loved art since early in life, started painting in acrylics & oils before high school & received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. While teaching digital art & animation at RISD's Continuing Education, she worked with data visualization UX in a VR environment at Brown University's Immersive "CAVE" in early 2000's. In 2005, Gisel began assisting photographers on transitioning to large & medium format professional digital capture w/ Industrial Color. Later on she established the first in-house photo studio for Barneys New York. The following year established Gisel Florez Studio Inc and navigated clients of editorial, commercial and experimental focus for 15 years in NYC. Within the last five years Gisel has transitioned from commercial to a primarily artistic career, delving deep into a global digital art scene & multiple futuristic mediums.
I’ve been developing manual & cinematic techniques exploring paths of particles & waves through a lens of a post-digitized era.
The transmission of energy is at the core of my recent works with light as the central subject. Everything from environmental surroundings, outlooks on the future, to communications with others, I feel nuances of energy that transmit constantly between humans. With these artworks I’ve been revealing visual elements within the unseen transmissions of energy & light. Using a 4x5 photographic camera & video, I have been documenting the paths & interactions of light, water & fire. My generative works intentionally draw upon technical methods including slow shutter speeds, focus pulls, sporadic shifts in aperture & quick motions within my central body of axis. Dancing with the keys of physical & manual constraints, my art is born by light of the atmosphere.
My most involved projects involve my dance with camera. I’ve been sparking a textural dance of NYC nights “TransmissionsofLight” (ongoing collection since 2019).
Developing a dialog of visual & audio lunar frequencies “Moonlanguage” (release TBA 2025) & A photographic collection of explosive stillness, "Physically Generative” 1/1/36 launched on 10/2/2024
About This Piece
I wanted to highlight the micro & macro aspects of my focus with this CryptoCube. It is a Cube intended to be seen as micro. In nanometers, or as small as we can imagine; something you may find swimming through the bloodstream or navigating electrical charges of the brain. The textural nuances within this rotating piece are sourced from my “Transmissions of Light” photography. It generates and contains energy connected to all the CryptoCube pieces & collaborators. A reference to this piece is destined to reveal one aspect in Moonlanguage; as a nod to the past and connection to the future.
Future
My outlook of the future of NTFs is indeed messy; full of socially driven experiments, coded developments, and new opportunities.
The platforms building are plentiful yet the ones who progress through the challenges of long term consistency with volatile market sentiments are few and far between.
