Bio

I'm Mari, also known as MadMaraca, a Voxel Artist, World Builder, 3D Designer and Published Artist with over a decade of experience in digital art. I specialize in voxel art, creating intricate micro-worlds and dioramas inspired by architecture, culture, and nature, blending them into fantasy environments that invite exploration and discovery.

My work has been featured in exhibitions worldwide, both in physical spaces and digital platforms, I've also had the opportunity to showcase my work on iconic billboards in major cities like NewYork, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Beyond exhibitions, I explore game development, NFTs, illustration, and other digital art forms. I've also curated and built virtual galleries in the metaverse, highlighting artists from around the world while expanding my own creative universe. In 2024, I published my first art book, documenting my journey and world building process.

About the Work

My artistic practice revolves around 3D design, worldbuilding, and voxel art, primarily using MagicaVoxel. I draw inspiration from brutalist structures, futuristic cityscapes, and historical architecture, merging them with natural forms to create visually complex yet harmonious compositions. Lighting, texture, and meticulous detailing are essential elements in my process, allowing me to shape environments that evoke a sense of depth, mystery, and discovery.

About This Piece

For my CryptoCubes collaboration, I wanted to build something that felt uniquely my own while fitting into the broader CryptoCubes ecosystem. The design reflects a balance between industrial rigidity and natural adaptation, incorporating elements that feel both ancient and futuristic. Every layer is carefully arranged to make it feel like a real, living space-a world within itself, waiting to be explored.

Future

NFTs and Web3 changed how artists share and sell digital work, giving more control and direct access to collectors. They've helped me fund projects and experiment outside traditional spaces, but the hype has faded, and the market remains unpredictable.

I still see potential in Web3, but not as a magic fix for artists. It's a tool, one of many, that I'll continue to explore while keeping my focus on creating meaningful work, no matter the medium or platform.
