Axis
Bio
I am an artist and metaverse architect based in Brooklyn. My work explores virtual architecture through modular design concepts with a focus on developing immersive experiences for digital art. Prior to xyz, I practised as an urban designer, co-founded the Sandbox incubator and the art collective Hither Yon. I’m currently the Director of Architecture at the Museum of Crypto Art.
About the Work
My work is dedicated to exploring the metaverse as a new medium for art, architecture and urbanism. I create digital objects and environments in 3D that are designed to be interoperable and portable between virtual worlds.
About This Piece
“Axis” is a tribute to CryptoCube #11, or xi. This piece explores the CryptoCube as a virtual landmark. The outlines of the original (#11) cubes are visualised as intersecting plot lines, laying a framework for a 3D city to emerge. Modular archways, windows and staircases fill the void of these plots and together they assemble a new kind of unreal architecture. “Axis” references the x,y,z coordinates or origin points that define all virtual environments. This theme is ever-present in both of our work (Han and mine) and a driving force of our interests in the emerging metaverse realm.
Future
Blockchain has provided a global infrastructure that - to me - resembles a city. The tooling and applications built onto these rails and roads are like neighbourhoods seeking to attract new residents. Much like in real-life neighbourhoods, art plays a pivotal role. We are the landmark-makers whose actions help to shape the way the city grows for generations to come.
